Person found dead in house that caught fire on Pamela Drive in Hampton

​The home was heavily damaged by fire and smoke and is inhabitable.

HAMPTON, Va. — A person was found dead in a house that caught on fire in Hampton on Wednesday night.

The fire happened in the 100 block of Pamela Drive. The Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue said firefighters responded around 9:40 p.m. 

When getting there, firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof and windows. They were also notified that a person was trapped inside.

The home was heavily damaged by fire and smoke and is unhabitable. During the response, the home became structurally unstable, according to the division. 

The exact cause of the person's death is not known and will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.

The fire is being investigated. The division said it currently doesn't appear to be suspicious.
