CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A driver was transported to the hospital for evaluation after a semi-trailer overturned I-664W just before the Bowers Hill Interchange Friday morning.
Chesapeake firefighters say they received calls reporting the overturned semi-trailer around 4:30 a.m. When crews arrived the driver was already out of the cab. The driver was taken to the emergency room for evaluation.
Around 20 gallons of diesel fuel were released from the truck's fuel tank. The Chesapeake Fire Department's Hazardous Materials Team responded and contained the spill until VDOT crews arrived to make arrangements with a cleanup contractor.
VDOT had said all I-664 north lanes were closed and a detour was in place, but lanes have reopened and traffic is flowing.
VSP says the driver has unknown injuries.
