CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man died early Friday morning when his SUV went off the interstate and struck a tree in Chesapeake.
Virginia State Police say the accident happened around 1:44 a.m. on I-64 East, east of Great Bridge Boulevard.
Based on a preliminary investigation, a 2004 GMC SUV went off the roadway and down an embankment, where it struck a tree.
The driver, a 35-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He had not been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
State Police say speed did not appear to be a factor, and it is unknown if alcohol played a role at this time.
