Small plane crashes at Hampton Roads Executive Airport in Chesapeake, VSP says

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A small plane crashed at Hampton Roads Executive Airport in Chesapeake on Thursday afternoon, Virginia State Police (VSP) said.

The pilot of a Cessna 170A, James Biggs of Virginia Beach, lost control of the aircraft and ran off the airstrip into the grassy area, according to VSP. He wasn't injured, though.

The plane's landing gear and one of its wings collapsed as the aircraft came to a rest.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

Correction: Based on incorrect information provided by VSP, a previous version of this article incorrectly stated the Hampton Roads Executive Airport is in Suffolk. The airport is located near the border of Suffolk, but is actually located in Chesapeake.
