CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A family-friendly Pride event is returning to Chesapeake's Summit Pointe for the third year this weekend.
Pride in the 'Peake celebrates LGBTQ+ visibility and equality with a street festival. It will feature live music, face painting, children's activities and food trucks.
The free event will kick off at noon Sunday and run until 5 p.m.
"We look forward to sharing a day of love, inclusivity, and acceptance with Chesapeake and beyond!" the city's website reads.
Last week, Chesapeake Mayor Rick West announced a historic Pride Month proclamation, acknowledging the nationwide commemoration of the New York City Stonewall uprising in 1969.
Pride in the 'Peake reacted to the proclamation online saying it's a reminder that "Chesapeake both acknowledges and values its LGBTQIA+ citizens."
