CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man has been sentenced to over 30 years on Thursday for a deadly crash in 2021, Chesapeake Police Department said.
Back in January, 26-year-old Ishmell Seymore pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and felony eluding.
Prosecutors said that on July 15, 2021, Chesapeake police spotted a dark sedan driven recklessly by Seymore on I-64 West around 6:07 p.m. When police tried to stop the car Seymore sped off. While fleeing from police on Greenbrier Parkway and Crossways Boulevard, Seymore crashed into a Honda. After crashing, he ran away from the scene.
The driver of the Honda, 65-year-old David Jones, died at the scene while a passenger, 54-year-old Jennifer O'Connell, died a short time afterward. Both were employed with the City of Chesapeake.
Police found and arrested Seymore in the 600 block of Jarman Road. Prosecutors said he later admitted he was driving at the time of the crash.
On Thursday, a judge sentenced Seymore to 65 years in prison with 34 years suspended, on the condition of supervised probation and uniform good behavior.
