CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Chesapeake police were working to resolve a barricade situation in the 2700 block of Mark Street when the suspect ended his own life, a police spokesperson said.
Around 6:48 p.m., a man ran into a home and barricaded himself after an "interaction" with an officer, CPD said. CPD also said that the man brandished a gun before fleeing.
A spokesperson for CPD said that police attempted negotiations with the man while he made suicidal statements. After negotiations stopped, the SWAT team went into the home and found the man dead around 11:47 p.m., from what police say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
