Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake placed on temporary lockdown for possible threat

On Monday, Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake received information about a possible threat and immediately put the school on level two lockdown.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake was placed on level two lockdown Monday after receiving information about a possible threat to the school.

Great Bridge High Principal Jeff Johnson issued a message to members of the school's community.

In it, Johnson stated the school was immediately placed on a level two lockdown as a precaution and the Chesapeake Police Department was also notified.

After about 20 minutes, the lockdown was lifted and students were able to leave their classrooms and resume the school day.

Johnson also urged parents to remind their students about the serious nature of making threats and that the Chesapeake Public School system will take legal action against anyone involved in making such threats to the fullest extent of the law.

This is the latest in a series of threats at schools and universities across the region, which includes bomb threats made the same day at Paul D. Camp Community College campuses in Franklin and Suffolk.
