CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A house fire in Chesapeake overnight left a firefighter injured and three residents without a place to stay, officials said Saturday.

The Chesapeake Fire Department (CFD), alongside Portsmouth Fire Rescue, battled a blaze at a home on Kenelm Drive shortly after midnight.

One firefighter was injured, however, the department said it was minor.

Before crews even arrived, officials say the three residents safely made it out of the home.

The residents are receiving help from the Red Cross as the house underwent both smoke and water-related damage.

CFD said the fire was accidental but did not say what exactly caused it.
