CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Community members gathered in Chesapeake on Saturday for an urgent call to stop the violence.
Bilal Muhammad, a prominent anti-violence activist in Hampton Roads, led the rally calling for an end to the violence in the community.
"Bring in the love, bring in the unity, bring in the support. We are living in a time that we must unite more than we ever united before," said Muhammad.
In 2023, Muhammad's son, Ali Muhammad, was killed in a shooting. Since Ali's death, dozens of people have been hurt or killed due to gun violence — including an 8-year-old boy from Virginia Beach.
Jalen Garces, the man facing charges in the murder of Muhammad, is expected in court for a hearing next week.
