CHIP rubber duck race aims to raise money for Hampton Roads children

The 12th annual Hampton Roads Rubber Duck Race takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Intracoastal Waterway at the Great Bridge in Chesapeake.

CHESAPEAKE, Va., (WVEC) -- CHIP of South Hampton Roads is launching thousands of rubber ducks to raise funds for community health and school readiness.

The 12th annual Hampton Roads Rubber Duck Race takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Intracoastal Waterway at the Great Bridge in Chesapeake.

The event is free and will have music, food, and games for children of all ages.

The highlight of the event: thousands of little yellow rubber ducks being dropped from a crane and racing down the waterway.

The first rubber duck to cross the finish line wins $10,000 for the owner of its ticket.

Hampton Roads Rubber Duck Race tickets are $5 each, and purchasers can also get “more ducks for their bucks” with flock pricing.
