Shooting near Great Bridge Primary School in Chesapeake leads to arrest

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man has been arrested after firing shots and damaging property in Chesapeake last Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Chesapeake Police Department said the shooting happened on Nov. 8. Around 10:15 a.m., gunshots were heard behind the Great Bridge Community Center off Holt Drive. Many police officers and sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the area.

The nearby Great Bridge Primary School was put on lockdown as a precaution. No one was injured and there was some property damage found. 

Detectives' investigation led to criminal charges being secured against 30-year-old Michael Andrew Taylor Jr.

He's being charged with several felonies, including the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, attempting to stab, cut and wound with malicious intent, discharging a firearm in/at an occupied building maliciously and discharging a firearm on public property within 1000 feet of a school.
