Chesapeake police investigating crash that killed NC man

Chesapeake police responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Fentress Airfield Road and Blackwater Road around 5:55 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man has died after a crash on Thursday morning, the Chesapeake Police Department said.

Chesapeake police responded to a vehicle crash at the Fentress Airfield Road and Blackwater Road intersection around 5:55 a.m. 

When officers arrived, they found that a minivan driving westbound on Blackwater Road had entered the intersection and hit a small SUV driving northbound on Fentress Airfield Road. The driver of the minivan, 71-year-old Patrick Martin of Knotts Island, North Carolina was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was uninjured and remained on site.

The Chesapeake Police Crash Reconstruction Team is currently investigating this incident.
