HVAC fire outside of home displaces two people in Chesapeake

The fire was marked under control within minutes, and the damage was kept to the exterior rear wall of the home.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Two people need a place to stay after their HVAC unit and electrical panel caught fire in Chesapeake on Sunday afternoon.

The Chesapeake Fire Department said firefighters were called to the 100 block of Hinton Avenue in the Deep Creek section of the city shortly after 1 p.m. for a report of smoke and flames coming from a home's HVAC unit and electrical panel box.  They arrived to find light smoke and flames coming from the HVAC and panel box.

The fire was marked under control within minutes, and the damage was kept to the exterior rear wall of the home.  However, authorities said that damage done to the home's electrical system, two adult occupants were displaced.  The Red Cross was called to assist them in finding a place to stay.

No one was hurt, and investigators determined the fire was accidental.
