6 displaced in Chesapeake house fire caused by space heater

The fire happened in the 1000 block of Mains Creek Road, which is near Great Bridge Boulevard.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Six people were displaced by a house fire in the Crestwood area of Chesapeake early Thursday morning.

The fire happened in the 1000 block of Mains Creek Road, which is near Great Bridge Boulevard. The Chesapeake Fire Department said it responded around 2:30 a.m. and got to the home a few minutes later.

Firefighters were able to contain the damage to one room and the fire was called out at 2:51 a.m.

Investigators determined that the fire was accidental, caused by a space heater.

Everyone got out of the house safely before firefighters got there. No one was injured, but five adults and a child were affected. The Red Cross is helping the family with a place to stay.
