CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A house fire in Chesapeake left two people and a dog displaced Friday afternoon.

The Chesapeake Fire Department said the fire happened in the 5000 block of John Street, which is close to Pughsville Road and Interstate 664.

Firefighters responded shortly after 3:15 p.m. after getting a 911 report of a fire in the home. Crews that arrived within eight minutes reported heavy smoke and flames visible in the rear of the building.

With help from Suffolk Fire & Rescue, Chesapeake firefighters got the fire under control at 3:55 p.m.

One of the people who lives at the home got out safely with their dog before firefighters got there. No one was injured, but fire, smoke and water-related damage has left the home uninhabitable.

The Red Cross was called to help with lodging, the Chesapeake Fire Department said.

The fire is being investigated.
