CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Volunteers came together to provide Thanksgiving meals for families in need on Thursday.
The Rose & Womble Foundation and the Towne Realty Foundation hosted the 30th Annual Turkey Brigade on Thursday. They gathered at RW Towne Realty Corporate's location to organize and pack meal baskets.
The Rose & Womble Foundation started the Turkey Brigade in 1993 with just 25 meals; over the years they say they have donated over 28,000 baskets that feed a family of six. They pledged to feed 3,500 families in Southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina this year.
The foundation receives the names of families from various social services and charitable groups. Their agents, employees, and other private donations raise the money to provide the meals.
If you want to contribute to the program you can still donate up until December 4. They accept checks marked out to Turkey Brigade or you can donate online on their website.
