Search continues for man charged in connection to Chesapeake CODI Alert case

The 14-year-old girl was eventually found safe after being gone for nearly 48 hours, but police continue looking for the man she had been last seen with.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Chesapeake police are still searching for the man last seen with a 14-year-old girl who went missing in November.

That teen was eventually found safe after being gone for nearly 48 hours. However, the man she was seen leaving a hotel with when she disappeared, 41-year-old James Bell, is still at large.

The Chesapeake Police Department said Bell is the only person facing charges in this case, but has not said what charges he's wanted for.

Virginia State Police confirm Bell is a Tier 3 offender on the state's sex offender registry, stemming from an aggravated sexual battery charge from 2011. Years later, court records show he was also charged with assault on a law enforcement officer after colliding with a police officer during a chase. He also faced charges of felony hit and run, and malicious shooting for a separate incident in 2018.
