MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. — A Mathews County Sheriff's Office deputy is expected to be okay after becoming trapped when his patrol car was struck by another vehicle in the Dutton area on Saturday, authorities said.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, the Sheriff's Office said the deputy was running radar while parked off Twiggs Ferry Road. Then, at around 8 a.m., officials say an SUV ran off the road and rammed the rear of the patrol car, entrapping the deputy.
Fortunately, the deputy was able to get out. He and the other driver are said to be okay.
Both vehicles are total losses, however.
Virginia State Police is handling the investigation.
