MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. — A Mathews County man will spend 2 years in prison for a 2023 shooting, the Mathews County Sheriff's Office said.
27-year-old Daniel Miller pleaded guilty to two counts of brandishing a firearm and maliciously shooting or throwing a missile at a vehicle following the 2023 incident.
Miller was sentenced to to 10 years and 36 months in the Virginia State Penitentiary. 10 years and 12 months were suspended from that sentence.
On November 10, 2023, Mathews County Sheriff's Office received a report of Miller shooting a riffle in the middle of Cricket Creek Road.
According to deputies, multiple witnesses said they saw Miller standing in the road pointing his rifle at their windshield. One driver said they had seen a muzzle blast come out of the barrel of the rifle and had to take cover on the shoulder to get around Miller.
Deputies took Miller into custody that same day. He was initially charged with reckless handling of a firearm, brandishing a firearm, and public intoxication. Miller has been held without bond at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center since he was taken into custody.
