Man facing felony charges for false reports in Mathews County

MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. — A man is facing felony charges for making false reports to law enforcement officers, the Mathews County Sheriff's Office said.

According to police, Randal James Diggs was arrested for making multiple phone calls to the Sheriff’s Office 911 Center. Between July and August, Diggs made threats toward a specific population in the community based solely on their race over a recorded phone line.

Diggs was arrested and charged with a felony for giving a false report to law enforcement officials on individuals solely because of their race, and three misdemeanor counts of threaten an illegal or immoral act with the intent to coerce, intimidate or harass a person over the telephone in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Currently, Diggs is being held at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center and is being held without bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 4 in the Mathews County Juvenile and Domestic Court.
