Domestic incident in Mathews County leaves 2 dead

MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. — A domestic incident in Mathews County left two people dead, according to the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened Friday at about 10 a.m., according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office. Deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Twiggs Ferry Road due to a report of a man down on the ground.

When deputies arrived, they found there were actually a man and a woman on the ground, and both were deceased.

The preliminary investigation found the incident was domestic-related and had taken place during the night. The bodies were transported to the medical examiner’s office in Norfolk.

“Sheriff (April) Edwards advises there is no threat to the community in regards to this incident and the investigation is still ongoing,” the Facebook post said. “Out of respect to the family of the decedents, no names will be released at this time. We ask for our community to say a prayer for the lives lost and for a family who is grieving the loss of two family members.”
