A man died after a trench collapsed and trapped him in Berryville, Va. on Wednesday, according to Clarke County police.
At approximately 9:52 a.m., police say contract workers were digging a ditch to replace a water line on Battletown Drive when a side of the trench's wall collapsed.
The man was trapped and at first, police said he was conscious and alert while crews tried to rescue him. He was also given an oxygen mask. During rescue procedures, police say the man died.
No further details have been released at this time.
