NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Every year, the Norfolk Admirals make a power play against breast cancer. This year's effort -- Saturday night's "Pink in the Rink" game -- was a huge success.

With more than 5,100 in paid attendance to see the Admirals play in their pink jerseys on their pink ice, it's now the second-biggest crowd of the season. Representatives from the Susan G. Komen Foundation Tidewater Chapter hit the ice at practice on Tuesday to personally thank the players.

It turned out to be a special moment.

"Thank you for being out here," said Lisa Chacon. Lisa not only works for Susan G. Komen, she's also a breast cancer survivor.

As she thanked them, the players started a conversation that touched her.

"Thank YOU," said Admirals player Paul Cianfrini. "You're very inspiring."

Lisa has now dedicated her life to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help others the way it helped her.

"The reconstructive surgery that I had, the medicines that I took, the things that have helped me through my battle, were funded by Susan G. Komen. So I know what I am doing now has not only made a difference for me, but it will make a difference in the future for other women."

Lisa shared with some of the players that she is in her 11th year being cancer-free.

"Congratulations, that's awesome!" said Admirals Captain Brodie Dupont. "My wife's aunt beat breast cancer and it was a scary moment when she was diagnosed."

Brodie wants to thank all of the fans for packing Scope with pink power to send a powerful message to people battling breast cancer now.

"Our prayers go out to you and you have our support," Brodie said.

The Admirals are still counting all of the money raised Saturday night.
