VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., (WVEC) -- Back Bay Farms hosted the 19th annual Kentucky Derby party Saturday in Virginia Beach. Guests wore derby hats, ate food, and enjoyed watching the Kentucky derby race.
Bill Gooch said he’s been coming to the event for 13 years now.
"I mean they put on a first-class event with the horses, the venue. You get a chance to watch the races, and of course the women are always dolled up with their beautiful hats,” said Gooch.
All of the money raised at the event goes to the Seton Youth Shelter. The Executive Director Jennifer Sieracki says the shelter depends on this event each year.
"So it's a great party, but it's a party with a very, very critical, essential purpose of saving lives, changing lives. We need everything from household items to volunteer support. You know, things that keep us going, keep our shelter doors open, keep our doors running, and keep our mentor program going," said Sieracki.
Even though the event has been going on for nearly 20 years, newcomers like Valorie Lacey are excited to support.
“Because there's so many things that you could spend your money on, and to spend money on helping our youth is I think a plus,” said Lacey.
