NORFOLK, Va. — Officials with the Navy Region Mid-Atlantic (NRMA) are working to hire lifeguards at installations pools and beaches ahead of summer.
In a release on Tuesday, NRMA said it needs to fill both part-time and full-time positions. Indoor pools are currently open at local Navy installations, however, officials say with outdoor facilities expected to open Memorial Day weekend they need to increase staffing.
“Not having any lifeguards affects fitness, mission readiness, the physical readiness test, and forces us to remove aquatic programs for families to use,” said John Lucas, the NRMA fleet readiness director.
Although certified lifeguards are preferred, the NRMA said training is available through the American Red Cross.
“This is a great opportunity for someone looking to make some extra cash on summer break or for someone wanting to make this a long-term career,” said Lucas.
Officials noted a few perks of the job which include access to MWR facilities and can shop at the Navy Exchange.
The pay ranges between $17 and $20 an hour depending on experience.
Those interested in the position can apply online here. Candidates must be 16 years or older.
