NORFOLK, Va. — There's only one week left for community members in need to register for Christmas assistance through The Salvation Army.
The program includes a gift of clothing through the Angel Tree Program, toys through Toys for Tots, a stocking, and food from Operation Blessing.
The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command is gearing up for their biggest Christmas season yet.
The Christmas Assistance program, in partnership with 13News Now, US Marine Corps Toys for Tots, The Joy Fund, and Operation Blessing, will be expanding to now include children ages 12-14. Before, the program only included children 11 and under.
If a child is born before 12/01/2004, then they are eligible to receive gifts through The Salvation Army's Christmas Assistance Program.

For Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake Residents (excluding 23321/23323):
The final applications for Christmas Assistance will be accepted October 7-11, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at The Salvation Army's Area Command office located at 5525 Raby Road, Norfolk, VA 23502.
For Portsmouth and Chesapeake 23321/23323 Residents:
The final applications for Christmas Assistance will be accepted October 21-25, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Salvation Army Portsmouth Corps Building located at 2306 Airline Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23701.
To be considered, applicants MUST bring the following information:
- Current Government Picture ID for Parent/Guardian
- Current Year Lease/Mortgage Statement or 2 Current Utility Bills in your name
- Birth Certificates for ALL children ages 0-14 (must be able to verify child's age, child must be born prior to 12/01/2004)
- If you are not the parent of the child you're applying for, YOU MUST bring
- proof of guardianship.
- Current documentation of TANF, income-based housing and/or Food Stamps (SNAP).
- SNAP cards will only be considered if they include your name on the front.
- If you do not receive any of the above income pre-qualifiers, please bring the following:
- Employment pay stubs - Last 30 days worth for all working household members. If self employed, bring 30 days of work receipts or your 2018 W-2.
- Proof of unemployment benefits, child support, housing assistance, Social Security, SSI and/or verification of any other types of household income.
- IF REPORTING $0 income (and no pre-qualifier), you will be required to go to your local Employment Commission office and get documentation showing you have not worked in the state of Virginia in the last quarter.
- If you do not receive any of the above income pre-qualifiers, please bring the following:
* Proof of household Crisis is required if your income exceeds current poverty guidelines.
Failure to bring any of the items above will result in the applicant being asked to return and reapply at a later application date.
