Pedestrian seriously hurt in James City County hit-and-run; suspect charged

The victim was hit around 5:25 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Green Mount Parkway. Police say a Nissan Altima was involved.

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. — A pedestrian was hospitalized Monday after getting hit by a car in James City County, officials confirmed. 

A county spokesperson said the victim was hit around 5:25 p.m. at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Green Mount Parkway. Eyewitnesses said the victim was hit by the car as it turned, and then the driver fled the scene. 

The victim went to the hospital with serious injuries. 

Following an investigation, police said they located 22-year-old Mehki Teachey of Newport News, who was charged with one count of felony hit and run involving injury or death.

Police said the vehicle believed to have been involved in the hit-and-run, a 2022 blue Nissan Altima, has not been found.

Teachey was booked into the Virginia Regional Peninsula Jail and later released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
