One dead, multiple injured after two-vehicle crash in James City County

On Tuesday night, James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to a fatal crash at the intersection of Old Stage Road and Fieldstone Parkway.

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. — A woman is dead following a crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Old Stage Road and Fieldstone Parkway on Tuesday.

According to a James City County Police Department press release, 44-year-old Melissa Delano of Suffolk was traveling south on Fieldstone Parkway in her black Honda Odyssey when she was hit by a white Ford F-250 pickup truck traveling westbound on Old Stage Road.

Police's preliminary investigation determined Delano attempted to turn left onto eastbound Old Stage Road when the two vehicles collided.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene around 8:21 p.m., they found the heavily damaged Honda and Ford pickup truck in the intersection median.

Delano was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene by James City County Medics, despite them performing CPR and other life-saving measures.

The passenger in Delano's Honda was transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

However, the driver of the Ford was treated and released at the scene, while a passenger in the truck was also transported to a nearby hospital, Riverside Regional Medical Center, with non-life-threatening injuries.

One westbound lane of Old Stage Road was closed for one hour, while the eastbound lanes remained closed for approximately four hours as emergency crews processed the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, but authorities said they do not believe alcohol impairment and speeding are factors in the crash.
