I-64 crash in James City County leaves man dead after vehicle hits tree, says Virginia State Police

VSP says Monday just after 4 a.m., troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash. A sedan was traveling west on I-64 when it ran off the road near exit 231.

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. — A deadly single-vehicle crash on the interstate is under investigation in James City County, Virginia State Police (VSP) said.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. on Monday, June 17.  According to VSP, a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis was driving west on I-64 in the de-acceleration lane of Exit 231B when the car went off the exit ramp, struck a pole, and then some trees.

Troopers said 22-year-old Caleb I. Harsha of Williamsburg died at the scene. Investigators believe he wasn't wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
