SMITHFIELD, Va. — A tractor-trailer crash a little after midnight Thursday in Isle of Wight left thousands of pounds of chicken meat on a highway, say police.
Virginia State Police (VSP) said they are investigating the crash that happened on Old Stage Highway in Isle of Wight around 12:40 a.m.
The tractor-trailer was loaded with around 39,000 pounds of chicken meat. The vehicle ran off the road, onto an embankment, causing it to flip on its side and lose its load. The driver was unhurt.
The roadway was shut down for several hours to allow crews to clear the road of chicken and remove the tractor-trailer.
VSP said all lanes were back open shortly after 8 a.m.
