SMITHFIELD, Va. — An 83-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash in front of a school in Smithfield Monday evening, Virginia State Police confirmed.
Around 5:54 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of Main Street for the crash. That's outside of Westside Elementary School.

The pedestrian suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was flown to Norfolk General Hospital via med-flight.
VSP said the driver did stay on the scene, and have not released any information about potential charges.
