Man from New York shot and killed in Carrollton Thursday evening

According to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. at the 15000 block of Smiths Neck Road in Carrollton.

ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. — A man died in Isle of Wight Thursday night after he was shot multiple times, police have confirmed.

According to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. at the 12000 block of Smiths Neck Road in Carrollton. When deputies arrived, they found the victim, 30-year-old Marvin Guillaume-Sam of Flushing, New York, with multiple gunshot injuries.

"We are still trying to piece together how he ended up in the backseat of that car - we do know that the shooting did occur in that general area where the car was," said Captain Tommy Potter, Isle of Wight Sheriff's Office.

Potter said at this time they do not believe Guillaume-Sam's death is road rage related, although the investigation is on-going.

He was brought to the hospital in Newport News, where he died. He has been transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's office in Norfolk, where an autopsy will be performed. Investigators are still working to determine the victim's connection to Isle of Wight County.

Guillaume-Sam's death marks the 3rd homicide to happen in Isle of Wight County this year, an unusually high amount for the area.

Detectives found 18-year old Aonesty Selby dead on a dirt logging path days after she disappeared in January. Police say Andarius McClelland, 21, admitted to shooting and killing Aonesty Selby after an argument over their relationship.

In April, an autopsy revealed 54-year old Stephen William March died from gunshot wounds rather than cardiac arrest, after his death was ruled suspicious. Deputies later arrested 74-year old Mark Wayne Honaker for 2nd-degree murder.

Investigators have not released any suspect information connected to Guillaume-Sam's death.
