SMITHFIELD, Va. — Isle of Wight and Smithfield are hosting several events for the fall season and Halloween holiday.
The events feature fun, food, contests and more. Events include:
- Scarecrow Stroll: (10/26 - 10/31) Local shops, merchants and restaurants have put out themed scarecrows for people to come down and see. You can vote for your favorite and winners will receive prizes.
- Witches Night Out: (10/26) 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Local restaurants and stores will be staying open late and they invite people to come out in costume.
- Smithfield Farmers Market's Trick or Treat: (10/28) 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
- Ham-O-Ween: (10/31) 5 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Safe trick or treating in downtown Smithfield on Halloween night. Also features a costume contest on the Smithfield Times gazebo stage. The event attracts around 3,000 people.
Connie Chapman, the special event manager for Smithfield & Isle of Wight Tourism, says that Smithfield attracts so many people because of the charm and history of their town.
"It's smaller than the big cities like Virginia Beach, Richmond and Norfolk and such. They like to be somewhere that's kind of quaint and fun," Chapman said.
