ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. — A woman was killed in a vehicle crash in Isle of Wight County on Tuesday morning, Virginia State Police (VSP) said.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight County Courthouse said that the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 258 (Courthouse Highway) and Route 620 (Scotts Factory Road) south of Smithfield, just before 6:30 a.m.
Investigators think that 63-year-old Yvonne Howell Higgs, who was driving a 2006 Lincoln MKZ, was going eastbound on Route 620 when she failed to stop at an intersection with a stop sign.
At the same time, a dump truck going southbound on Highway 258 hit Higgs' vehicle at the driver's side door.
She died from her injuries where the crash happened, according to VSP. The driver of the truck had injuries that weren't considered to be life-threatening and was treated at the scene.
VSP said nothing indicates that alcohol or speed contributed to the crash. Higgs' next of kin has been notified.
