SUFFOLK, Va. — The Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man wanted in a burglary at a Benn’s Church convenience store on Thursday morning.

Two arrests have also been made in the incident, which stemmed a manhunt that brought a large law enforcement presence to Route 17 for most of the day.

Early Thursday morning, a passerby saw people smashing the glass of the door of the Citgo at 19417 Brewers Neck Blvd., according to a press release from the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a trail of merchandise leading out of the smashed door. The deputies took a description of the vehicle from the witness and located it at the BP station at 1600 Bridge Road in Suffolk.

Two people allegedly in the vehicle were identified as Saraf Eugene Taylor, 51, of Portsmouth, and Emily Miles, 25, of Windsor. Both were taken into custody and face burglary and narcotics charges, the press release stated.

A third suspect, the driver of the vehicle, is named Rodger Dale Newelle III, 42, of Suffolk, the press release stated. He allegedly fled on foot before deputies arrived.

He was later seen in the 2500 block of Bridge Road. The Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office and Suffolk Police Department set up a perimeter and searched for Newelle without success. The search has now been terminated.

Newelle is charged in today’s incident with felony burglary, felony conspiracy and felony destruction of property. He is also wanted for failure to appear on assault and battery charges from a previous event.

The sheriff’s office asked people to call 757-357-2151, submit a tip to P3tips.com, or call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP if they know Newelle’s whereabouts.
