NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is warning riders to plan for delays and interruptions on Tuesday as an anticipated storm rolls in, bringing high winds.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, HRT said service will be temporarily suspended for the Elizabeth River Ferry. During this time, a shuttle will be servicing the ferry landings impacted.
Further, HRT warns potential flooding and winds could shut down the light rail and delay bus services.
"The safety of our patrons and operators is of our greatest concern," said William Harrell, president and CEO of Hampton Roads Transit. "We will do our best to keep service moving safely and efficiently but must also take precautions in the best interest of our customers and team members."
The announcement comes after the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Severe Weather Outlook across Hampton Roads.
The region is expected to see 2 to 3 inches of rain and wind gusts reaching between 40 and 60 miles per hour come Tuesday afternoon and continuing into the evening.
