Green Flash Brewing Company closes in Virginia Beach; dozens out of work

A former manager at the Virginia Beach location said between 25 to 35 people are out of a job because of the closure.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Signs announcing that Green Flash Brewing Company was closed for business hung on the brewery's gates Monday.

The San Diego-based business put it's operation off Corporate Landing Parkway up for sale, less than two years after it opened.

A former manager at the location in Virginia Beach told 13News Now the closure put between 25 and 35 people out of work.

Heritage Global Partners is handling the sale of the property which had its grand opening in November 2016.

The site features a 58,000-square-foot brewery, a tasting room, a beer garden, and a private event room and garden.

13News Now spoke to a woman whose sister, a sailor who serves aboard USS George Washington, was supposed to have her wedding at the brewery in the coming weeks.

Because the aircraft carrier is out to sea currently, Tara Davidson only has been able to talk to her sister via Facebook.

Davidson told 13News Now:

She is devastated. We made sure everything was set up before she left so she would have nothing to worry about. We booked the venue 6 months in advance. I just don’t know what to do. I don’t want her to come home and not have the wedding she has been planning for years.

Davidson said she contacted Green Flash Sunday. Someone there told her that her sister would get her money back. Although that may be the case, Davidson pointed out the brewery still had the money, leaving her sister with nothing to put down elsewhere and the bigger issue of trying to find a venue on short notice.

In January, Green Flash announced it was planning to focus on its distribution areas around its core facilities in California and Virginia Beach.

By Monday afternoon, the Facebook page for the location in Virginia Beach was unavailable.
