Great grandson helps celebrate the music of John Philip Sousa

Tuesday and Wednesday, free concerts celebrate the works of John Philip Sousa from 1860s to 1930s.

VA BEACH -- The great grandson of composer and bandleader John Philip Sousa is in Virginia Beach this week for a celebration of music with The Tidewater Winds.

John Philip Sousa IV will provide family anecdotes and introduce the fabulous music of the famed leader of the American Concert Band in concerts with the Winds. Performances include a special military salute and presentation of Semper Fidelis (1888) and Stars and Stripes Forever (1896), composed by John Philip Sousa

The concerts are free and start at 7:30 p.m.

July 10: Sandler Center for the Performing Arts at Town Center

July 11: 31st Street Stage, Neptune Plaza at the Oceanfront
