GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. — An investigation is underway after racist graffiti was discovered inside a restroom at Peasley Middle School on Friday, according to the Gloucester County Public Schools Facebook page.
Division Superintendent Dr. Anthony Vladu denounced the threatening message made against the Black community, adding that the school division will take action once the person responsible is identified.
"Gloucester County Public Schools unequivocally condemns discrimination of any kind. We are actively collaborating with the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office to thoroughly investigate this incident, and the perpetrator will face disciplinary consequences," the Facebook message reads in part.
According to the post, the message threatening the Black community was found inside a 6th-grade bathroom stall.
While acknowledging community questions about the graffiti, Dr. Vladu reiterated that law enforcement and public school officials are actively investigating the incident.
"We appreciate your support as we navigate through this, emphasizing that such behavior has no place in our school community or society at large," the message reads.
This comes just days after Mathews County Public Schools announced officials were investigating a "racist, threatening statement" etched onto a bathroom wall inside the high school.
