VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Former NFL safety Aaron Rouse is making a political play as the Hampton Roads native announces his run for Virginia Beach City Council.
Rouse first announced his run over the weekend and detailed more on his upcoming campaign in a post on Facebook.
"Throughout the time that I've been back home I've noticed some things in our local government, I'd like to see changed. My grandfather was an army vet. He taught me the principle of leadership by example - not to talk about change but to be the change. And that’s why I've decided to run for Virginia Beach City Council At-Large." Rouse wrote on Facebook.
Rouse also created a Facebook page dedicated to his campaign.
The Virginia Beach native has played for the Green Bay Packers and played college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
