First woman ever to command Naval Station Norfolk leaving

The first woman in Navy history to command Naval Station Norfolk, Captain Mary Jackson, is leaving after two years at the helm of the base.

NORFOLK -- The first woman in Navy history to command Naval Station Norfolk, Captain Mary Jackson, is leaving after two years at the helm of the base.

Since August 2010, Jackson has served as the Navy's version of mayor of the base, which is the world's largest naval base, and home to more than 60,000 workers.

The change of command ceremony will take place Thursday.

The base's current Executive Officer, Captain David Culler, will be taking over.
