NORFOLK, Va. — Sunday marks one year since 19-year-old Shelton Jordan, Jr. was shot in Norfolk. The Chesapeake teenager died at the hospital days later.

No arrests have been made in the deadly shooting, and now Jordan’s family is speaking out.

Jordan’s mother, Armentha Williams, says he went to the neighborhood near Berkley Avenue Extension and Todd Street for a Halloween party. She says she had no idea she was saying goodbye for the last time.

“He didn’t even make it inside the party, and somebody shot him from behind,” Williams told 13News Now Saturday. “He went and he never came back home.”

Norfolk Police say they found Shelton Jordan, Jr. near the intersection around 11:30 p.m. on October 27, 2023.  He had a critical gunshot wound and died at the hospital.

“I just want some answers as to who did this to my child because whoever wanted anything from him, he would’ve [given] it to them. That’s the kind of person he was,” Williams explained.

Williams also says her son was a talented cook, violinist and student. He also served at a local church and participated in ROTC. Williams said, “he observed. He was friendly, he would give the shirt off his back. He always made sure we [were] okay.”

Now, the mother is pleading for answers as time passes with no new information.

“Put yourself in my place,” she said. Jordan would have celebrated his 21st birthday this November.

A spokesperson with the Norfolk Police Department told 13News Now, “detectives continue to investigate the homicide of Shelton L. Jordan Jr. and encourage anyone with information about this case to please contact the Norfolk Crime Line. Tips are anonymous, and information that leads to an arrest may result in a cash reward.”
