Dozens search for missing Southampton County mom Cynthia Carver

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who has had contact with Cynthia Carver before or since her disappearance to call 757-653-2100.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. — A search party was out Thursday looking for a Southampton County mother who has been missing for a week.

Authorities are trying to track down 34-year-old Cynthia Carver who was last seen dropping her children off at a babysitter's house around 9 p.m. on Thursday. Carver, a correctional officer, didn't show up at work on February 22 causing her family to worry.

Carver's family told deputies that she was supposed to meet a man that night. They didn't know who the man was.

Police found blood and a knife inside Carver's home, but there was no sign of her. The mother's purse, wallet, and phone were also missing.

Dozens of volunteers were out to look for the mother of two. Carver is about 5'1" tall, and she weighs 140 pounds. Carver has brown eyes and black hair.

“There is just no telling what to expect but you want to expect the best either way,” said volunteer Patricia Westbrook.

People searched abandoned homes, an old school, and wooded areas.

“Searching all over the abandoned buildings all over the woods in houses that we feel that is proper to check,” said Pastor Jeremiah Cole. “We are trying everything that’s possible to help with any needs or anything just comfort the family especially in a time such as this.”

Volunteers said they found a few things they called “suspicious” like an odd spot in the woods and a pair of glasses. However, the lead investigator on the case said the odd spot was a deer nest.
