NORFOLK, Va. — A 50th-anniversary celebration was held Wednesday for a library that has meant a lot to the Norfolk community surrounding it.
The Park Place Library branch can be found on 29th Street, but back in 1970, it started out as the Black Culture Center over on Colonial Avenue. It was a central place for African-American books, art, and culture.
Today, that collection lives at the Park Place branch and it remains an important resource for the community.
"The past five decades have been just absolutely wonderful for the community, for the city, for the library to be here to provide the resources and to make an impact as we heard today," said Norfolk Library Director Sonal Rastogi.
The library also provides classes for people to learn things like computer skills.
