5th Annual Trail Blazers Sidewalk Parade returns to Portsmouth

Music, culture and history were all shared during the parade, including the history of some of the first Black churches in the nation.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — It's Black History Month, and people across Hampton Roads are celebrating with the 5th Annual Trail Blazers Sidewalk Parade.

The Young Peoples Guild Foundation led a parade through Portsmouth's Truxtun Historic District on Saturday.

Music, culture and history were all shared during the parade, including the history of some of the first Black churches in the nation.

"We call it a parade because we celebrate who we are at various locations that we enhance and enlighten people in the city of Portsmouth. The history that we as African Americans have brought to Portsmouth," said Joyce Tasby, founder of The Young Peoples Guild Foundation.

The founder also hopes to continue to educate the community on the legacy that was created right here in Hampton Roads.
