Virginia State Police investigating deadly pedestrian crash on Eastern Shore

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating a deadly pedestrian crash on the Eastern Shore.

State police responded to a call to investigate a deadly crash at Route 13 around 9:56 p.m.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2004 Toyota Prius was driving northbound on Route 13 through an intersection when she hit a pedestrian walking in the left travel lane. 

The pedestrian, 53-year-old Thomas Leandreas Wharton, died on impact. The driver of the Prius, 36-year-old Judea Amenda Van Smith, was transported to Salisbury Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been made.

VSP is still investigating this incident.
