ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. — A pedestrian was killed in a crash on the Eastern Shore Tuesday night, Virginia State Police (VSP) reported.
Around 6:38 p.m., officers were called to the single-vehicle crash on Lankford Highway and Mason Road. The pedestrian, a woman, died at the scene of the crash, VSP said.
Initial investigations reveal that the pedestrian, 35-year-old Marlene Trakney of Nelsonia, Virginia was in the left travel lane of south Route 13, about 50 yards north of Mason Road, when she was hit.
Tralney was struck by a 2018 Honda Hodyssey van operated by 63-year-old David Peterson of Greenville, North Carolina.
Peterson was traveling in the left southbound lane when he struck Trakney.
Trackney died on impact. It is unknown why she was in the travel lane of an unlit area of Lankford Highway. It's unknown if Trakney was under the influence.
Peterson was not injured during the crash.
