Woman killed while teaching daughter how to ride bike in Accomack County

A 39-year-old man and his 6-year-old daughter were taken to Tidal Health Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland with serious injuries.

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police is investigating a crash that left a pedestrian dead Wednesday evening.

VSP says 26-year-old Erika Bailey, of Virginia Beach, and her boyfriend, 39-year-old Duane Turner, were teaching their 6-year-old daughter how to ride a bike when they were struck from behind.

It happened in the 32300 block of Nocks Landing Road in Atlantic at around 6:30 p.m.

Bailey was killed on impact. Turner and his 6-year-old daughter were taken to Tidal Health Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland with serious injuries.

VSP says the passengers in the car, a 36-year-old woman and a 3-year-old, were uninjured in the crash. State Police say neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. 

The investigation is being reviewed by the Accomack Commonwealth Attorney's Office, which will determine if charges are to be placed. VSP says at this time, no one has been charged.
