ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating a four-vehicle crash that left one person dead Friday.
The crash happened along Lankford Highway, Route 13, a half mile South of Coal Kin Road.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a 2012 Ford Sedan was traveling at high speeds in the northbound lanes on Route 13 when it struck the rear end of a 2016 Chevrolet Cruz in the northbound lanes.
State police say upon impact, the Ford Sedan drove across the median and into the Southbound lanes into the path of a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Police say the Ford Sedan hit the tractor-trailer head-on, then it went into a ditch.
The driver, identified as 39-year-old Romar Reid of Hampton, was ejected from the Ford Sedan and died on impact, according to Virginia State Police. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Meanwhile, according to investigators, the Chevrolet Cruz spun out into the northbound lanes, facing southbound. Police say a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado traveling northbound, struck the disabled Chevrolet Cruz. Both drivers were taken to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities are working to confirm the identity of the driver of the 2012 Ford Sedan.
The crash is under investigation.
